Hi I'm Sarah

project

In a part of my life which was full of turmoil during college I choose to take an easier semester with Hatha Yoga Level 1. Little did I know that it would alter the course of my life. I enjoyed the benefits, especially savasana. I signed up for Hatha Yoga Level II the next semester. I have always enjoyed moving my body and I believe my body is a gift from God. A temple for my spirit. After college I tried to continue my home yoga practice, but options were limited and it wasn’t consistent.

Beginnings

Fast forward nine years, COVID hit hard. A wife and a mother of five children, I was teaching my children school in our home. Life was full and beautiful. However there was also greater chaos and contention. Life felt as a whirlwind. I experienced feelings of disorientation, being unfocused and feeling torn in a million different directions. In the last year or so I had sought help with back pain associated with carrying and caring for children. I was led to an inspired Physical Therapist who had me use a tool named Rezzimax. A tool he invented to bring his wife pain relief. This Tuner Pro targets the nervous system through a series of vibration therapy systems. After a week I was pain free and continued to use the Tuner Pro.

Discovery

For years I experienced pain in my hip after sitting on the floor playing with my young children. I again sought the help of the Physical Therapist who taught me some exercises and while at that visit I had the impression to practice yoga again. One morning I googled yoga classes and found a YouTube yoga channel. After a simple 20 minute practice and I felt much improved both physically, mentally and emotionally.

Learnings

I kept practicing yoga on and off throughout the month, enjoying how yoga affected me and thus my family positively. I was in awe that on this YouTube channel no two classes were the same. I could do a different practice every day. I also was introduced to Yin and Restorative yoga, two practices I had never before tried and instantly resonated with. Perhaps it was because I was seeking peace and rest from the world that my yoga mat became my sacred space of intention. My safe place, where I could completely be myself. Where it was alright to be vulnerable. I learned to carry my practice with me off the mat. I was led to a yoga app to further develop my practice through 2021.

Transformational Growth

Near the end of that year I yearned to know all about the ancient practice of yoga. And right away an opportunity opened up. I was led to a 200 hour yoga teacher training that would begin Fall 2022. I experienced the most transformational growth in YTT. In December 2022 I received my certification in Vinyasa Yoga.

Since then I have taught yoga to my family and friends. I have started a business called Hope Awakening Yoga. Because yoga for me awakened the hope within me, it cultivates my spirit. I desired to share the beauty of yoga with my community and started teaching in my hometown.
